Dear Past unveils at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2013

By Corporation launches the intriguing ‘Dear Past’, at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2013 – Stand A12:03

With continued commitment to young and exciting designers from Scandinavia, By Corporation has once again unearthed another real talent.

The talent in question is 23-year-old Linnéa Ekström and her first piece ‘Dear Past’ is set to draw the crowds and add yet more talking points to this years exhibition.

As the name suggests ‘Dear Past’ is like a love letter to the security of home and memories of Swedish craftsmanship. At the same time it features a modern twist that embraces the openness, uncertainty and excitement of the future. The backrest of the chair has been altered from the traditional shape and design to leave the dramatic silhouette of the 5 posts reaching out into space.

Ekström explains how the design came about as she herself left the past and started a new part of her life:

‘During the moment I made this chair I began a new period, moving to Norway and starting a new school. The outcome of this move was that I created something kind and dear to home. The chair was designed in such a way to express humility, and respect for the design history of Swedish chairs, but with a modern and unexpected alteration.’

Through this design ‘Dear Past’ cleverly negotiates mood swings between modesty and creative expression, and it achieves all of this without shouting aggressively with bold colours or extreme new textures.

For By Corporation ‘Dear Past’ reinforces a commitment to exceptional young Scandinavian designers. We believe that the heritage of good design in this part of the world is so strong that the next generation can again surprise and enthrall us all.  As Linnéa says of herself and her fellow classmates:

‘I have the privilege to still be in school, to enjoy being part of the exploration of design and art. The contemporary is in our hands.’

Everyone passionate about art and design can look forward to a very exciting future from By Corporation as we continue our quest to find and develop truly stunning design and art projects.

We believe ‘Dear Past’ is a remarkable design and certainly something worth writing home about.

About Ekström

‘Dear Past’ an intriguing chair created by Linnéa Ekström.

Linnéa is 23 years old, still in school but on the verge of beginning a very successful career as a contemporary furniture designer.

Linnéa explains her design thought process:

‘With irritating silence things are talking to us with their body language, like fantasy figures connected to us, they have a longing to tell. To be able to see the personality of the designer or a concentration of a social phenomenon in physical objects, gives a greater added value to their design.’

‘I want to intensify the visual language which today can be seen as pale with emptied habitats. With clear communication, diversity and our physical perception as a starting point I want people to extended their relationship with objects through colour, form and material. Then design can truly progress in its impact.’

For By Corporation ‘Dear Past’ reinforces our commitment to exceptional young Scandinavian designers.
