Some of the skills you need to be a great designer include the ability to adapt and change to the unexpected, to see something that others don't see and to have the confidence to divert from your original plan when a better idea presents itself. All of which happened when Sanelma worked on a college project at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture in Helsinki. Sanelma explains:  
 
'The first prototype of Lankku was made for a course at school. The assignment was to make a double curvature chaise lounge with my own measurements. That didn’t happen. By the time I was making a mold to laminate plywood I realised that the mold itself for me was much more interesting.'  
'As a designer but also a consumer I’m a low tech- lover. I find myself very much interested in wood and how to use it as simply as possible. The less the wood is processed the more you can see the natural individuality in each object. I like to give the material a chance to show its natural beauty.'
